What is our 5 Whys?
1.Those with disabilities are not as encouraged as the general population to participate in physical activity or exercise classes.
Example: We often see commercials with able bodied people using Peloton or other fitness applications that are all geared towards able bodied people.
2.Most gyms or fitness apps do not cater towards those with disabilities.
Ex. Peloton does not offer cycling with a prothetic leg, weightlifting in a wheelchair or modified workout classes in general.
3.Disabled people require special equipment, more specific guidance and modifications which is very challenging when there is a lack of resources, money and information.
4.They require expert support and modified equipment because they are physically not able to perform the same exercises as able-bodied persons and it results in injuries or worsen their condition. Without this expert support they are not able to offer necessary programs. They lack expert programming because it is not viewed as profitable or as in demand as catering towards the able bodied population. This lack of information leaves the disable people underserved and with no access to exercise. This exercise is essential to disabled people.
5. Fitness is not as accessible to disabled people. Many facilities or applications do not provide the necessary tools or programming for disabled people to actively exercise as much as able-bodied individuals.
