Meet the Team
Meet the great minds behind AdaptAbility Fitness. We are an interdisciplinary team of York University students who came together to help in making fitness accessible. We are doing this by modifying digital platforms through a mobile application to incorporate exercises for those with physical limitations and constraints. We have come together to understand how wheelchair users might lead a more physically active lifestyle with the support of a mobile application.
Audrey Garcia
3rd Year - Economics Major
Why did you take C4?
I wanted to work on an interdisciplinary project. I hoped to learn from students with different backgrounds and expertise as a group. I think the integration of multiple disciplines and the voices of underserved communities is important when designing products.
Why did you choose this project?
I am looking to create more accessible and inclusive tech. This project seemed like a great challenge! It was outside of my comfort zone and I have no regrets!

Leveraging my social sciences background, I hope to venture in tech and design.

4th Year - Kinesiology and Health Science Major
Why did you take C4?
I took C4 because of the unique experience and opportunity the program offered! I loved the interdisciplinary aspect of the program and being able to work and learn alongside different individuals with distinct skillsets and knowledge. Being able to manage a project with a team was another big factor as well.
Why did you choose this project?
I chose this project because I knew that I could apply the knowledge I have gained from my Kinesiology degree over the years in a practical sense. Additionally, I wanted to contribute to a project that had the potential to make a real life impact and one that could help many individuals strive for a healthier life.
Personal/Career Goals
Post graduation, I would like to find a career in a healthcare field (i.e. physiotherapy) that is focused on patient care.

A few of my hobbies and interests include gaming, running, crocheting and learning new languages!

4th Year - Kinesiology and Health Science Major
Why did you take C4?
I chose C4 due to the interdisciplinary component that it focuses on along with being able to team up with individuals from different majors and work on a real-life problem and try our best to provide a solution.
Why did you choose this project?
I am sure that we all know at least one if not more individuals who are paraplegic and the fact that something as important as exercise is not accessible to them. Therefore, I decided to choose this specific project as I wanted to help provide a safe digital platform where these individuals can benefit from, along with that, I also believe this is a great research opportunity for me to incorporate my knowledge from my Kinesiology courses and apply it to this project.

After completing my undergraduate degree in the 2021-2022 term, I aspire to continue expanding my passion and expertise in the health science field.

4th Year - Computer Science Major
C4 and this Project
Over the summer, I came up with this project idea while I noticed my mom had to modify the workouts relative to the workout video because she couldn’t bend one of her knees. In my pursuit to implement my idea, I came across the C4 Program at York University and pitched my idea.
Personal/Career Goals
Within the next decade, I have two goals. The first is to work at a startup (hopefully, we can turn this project into a startup) or at a company as a Full Stack Developer that aligns with my values. And visit each African country to document the innovation, technological improvements, and entrepreneurship occurring.

I like to draw while listening to a podcast or catch up on my favourite shows and movies during my spare time.
Justina Aveyard
4th Year - Psychology Major
Why did you take C4?
I wanted to apply the theoretical knowledge I have learned in school to a tackle a real life problem. I also wanted the opportunity to collaborate with other students from other disciplines to gain experience on a team of individuals with different skills.

Why did you choose this Project?
I chose this project because I am extremely passionate about fitness. I am a fitness professional and a psychology major and I hoped to marry these two interests to explore the motivation of wheelchair users to exercise and how we could offer this community more opportunities.

Personal/Career Goals
I hope to continue working as a professional dancer. Longer term, I hope to create programs and resources for Young Adult Cancer patients.

Why did you take C4?
I took C4 to gain some hands-on experience working in groups and work on solving a real-life problem that also contributes to the UN SDGs.

Why did you choose this project?
I chose this project in particular based on my interest of helping improve health equity and bridging the gaps for in the health care system.

Tharanya Thillairajan
4th year - Environmental Studies Major
Why did you take C4?
C4 is a unique opportunity to work with individuals from different backgrounds and find a way to tie our skills together for a greater cause. It is a great learning experience that other courses cannot offer.
Why did you choose this project?
The environmental studies program largely focuses on social conditions and inequalities that exist in society and this project approaches that same problem but in a different light. I was interested in the ways that technology can potentially be a solution.
Personal/Career Goals
I would love to pursue a career in the conservation sector of environmentalism, either as a consultant or biologist!

My hobbies include reading, playing games on my Nintendo Switch, jigsaw puzzles, baking, gardening and hiking.
